Hi again everyone! Well, here we are in the Lone Star State of Texas and boy is it hot! Actually, it's not really the heat that is so bad, but it's the humidity...must be about 45%...almost like walking through water a fine mist. We'll survive though cuz we Canadians are supplying the states with enough electricity to run every air conditioner in the state and it's a good thing too cuz they need air conditioners down here!
We left early yesterday morning...5:00 a.m. and arrived here at 1:30 Texas time. They are two hours ahead of us but it was sure a long day. We tried to rent a car at the airport but all they had was a mustang convertible for $150 a day plus insurance, or a 15 passenger van. We could have chosen the van and I'm sure we could have filled it up with scrapbooking stuff, but Tom said no so we got a cab to the hotel and then went and found a rental car at a nearby rental company. Got a bright yellow PT Cruiser...kind of girly for Tom, but I love it. I've always thought they were funny looking little things but this one is really cute.
Our hotel room is really comfortable. It's certainly not fancy...if you want fancy, the Hilton is across the road...this one has a large living area with a couch, a small kitchen with eating bar, and a separate room with a nice comfy bed in it. We went out last night and bought a few groceries so we can have breakfast and snacks here. There are lots of steak houses around...that's what we'll do for supper tonight.
So....the whole reason we're here is for the Scrapbooking Convention...and all I can say is WOW....if I don't come home, you'll know I've lost myself in scrapbook stuff. It's absolutely awesome. I've got three classes each day and then there's the shopping...well, the whole floor of the convention centre (about as big as an ice arena) is full of different booths s
elling scrapbook stuff...stamps, paper, embelishments, just about anything you can imagine. I'm in HEAVEN!!! After my classes today I went shopping and only got 3/4 of the way around the outside of the convention floor...I'm going to have to start earlier tomorrow! Tom said he's taking away my credit card, but he doesn't know I have a bunch of cash to spend too!!!! I'm sure enjoying the convention.
Our hotel is right across from Six Flags and Hurricane Harbour...we can see the roller coasters from our window. Is fun to watch, but after having vertigo last year, I don't think I'll go for any crazy rides. There's plenty of things to do around here and since we've booked to stay a couple extra days, we'll have time to see the sights then.
They are building a new stadium for the Dallas Cowboys...it's got a retractable roof and looks like a big dome. The guy at the car rental place said that the trusses for the place were a mile and a quarter long....pretty wild. We saw the Texas Ranger's ball park too...we're hoping to catch a game while we're here...Cleveland Indians are playing so it might be a good game.
Well, I'll write more tomorrow...my shoulders are sore from carrying all my tote bags full of scrappin' stuff I bought around today. Maybe I can talk Tom into a shoulder rub.
ahhh....I'm loving this vacation!!!

I'm so jealous....I wish I could have gone with you, sounds like a complete blast! I forgot to ask Liz if she was going...I'll call her tonight though. Maybe we can go to another one in a couple of years. Hope you took an extra suitcase.
I like the color of your CRUIZER.
